GreenTRIBOS is a planned joint doctorate programme on Green Tribology for Sustainable Engineering, which is becoming a necessary requirement for the future engineering design. It brings together four internationally leading complementary groups (University of Ljubljana, University of Coimbra, University of Leeds, and Luleå University of Technology) in different areas of green tribology that have the capacity and excellence to make a step-change in advancing the Green tribology area and train a new generation of engineers and scientists that will be equipped with high-quality multidisciplinary scientific knowledge, as well as with associated transferrable skills, to become fully creative and innovative with entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to transfer science into innovation in industrial environment for the economic benefit.
Several PhD projects will be launched to embrace the three action areas of GreenTRIBOS, i.e. reducing energy consumption, reducing resources use and reducing environmental pollution and emissions. Each project will be co-supervised by two professors from two academic institutions, and associated with one or more industrial and non-academic partners. In addition to personalised research projects, early stage researchers will be exposed to joint academic curriculum and relevant transferrable skills to become internationally-experienced and highly-employable young leaders in green technology.
1st GreenTribology conference was held in Leeds on 6 September 2023, together with the 48th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology. Both conferences together were attended by more than 200 participants.
Nayan Dhakal, ESR in the GreenTRIBOS consortium, won the Dowson Prize at the 48th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology.
